Adopt-A-Trail

Rubicon Owners of California are proud sponsors of the San Bernardino National Forest Adopt-A-Trail program (SBNF AAT). For the past 2 years, ROC has has logged the 2nd highest number of volunteer hours for a club involved in the AAT Program. Maybe this is our year to come in 1st? Currently, ROC is maintaining 3 trails in SBNF and we usually devote the last Saturday of every month to our trails or other AAT projects.

In addition to our own trails, ROC members frequently assist the SBNF Rangers with other traiil projects. There is much to be done to keep our trails open! Some of the projects our members have have volunteered for include::

  • Removing/destroying a giant boulder blocking the trail on Pipes Canyon
  • Rebuilding 1N17X by adding more than 2 tons of rock to fill in areas destroyed by water erosion
  • Building rock cages to repair impassable roads on various trails thorughout SBNF
  • Vehicle recovery of abandoned/destroyed vehicles (good winch practice!) on various trails
  • Maintaining some of the most popular trails in SBNF like John Bull to keep them open to all

Our Current Trails

1N34(aka Cucamonga Truck Trail and San Savaine): This trail has amazing views! You can see to Catalina on a clear day! We have co-adopted this trail with Scouts West and are working hard to get it re-opened. The past several rainy seasonhave left this trail barely passable by foot in sections. The ROC club along with Scouts West have put countless hours into rebuilding this trail by both winc and hand look forward to the day when it is open for use by the general public!

3N06A(Coldwater Canyon): This is ROCs' oldest adopted trail. It is a blue-rated scenic trail, which makes it a great beginning run for new Rubicon Owners. It is approximately 2.2 miles in length with 2 creek crossings, plenty of yellow post camp sites, and also a fun hill climb at the end. This trail vertically climbs some 1800 feet in elevation and in the winter months is covered with snow, making it at certain times impassable. When we first started maintaining this trail, we would haul out full size pick up beds full of trash. We're happy to report that with our constant maintenance, this trail has become very easy to maintain with minimal trash needing to be hauled out on our regular visits.

3N06B(ROC's Trail?): This is the newest adopted trail, and is a nice addition to 3N06A. Like it's predecessor, this trail is very scenic with lots of great yellow post camp sites along the way. Because this trail has been left unmtaintained for a while there is still much work to be done! Getting this trail to the level that 3N06A is at will will be one of ROC's main projects for the upcoming year.
